Sunday Afternoon - more positive reports

Sunday afternoon is upon us and still all good news.  The doctor on duty came in and cut back her oxygen.  In fact, she was completely OFF of oxygen for about 20 minutes.  She is now comfortable on 1 Liter/Minute.  They say by tomorrow she should be off the oxygen.  She has not been on less than 5 L/min for years, so even 1 L/min is pretty amazing.  She still has some fluid on her lungs, but that is improving and should be in good shape by tomorrow.  Overall, she is well, but spending lots of time sleeping and still has to whisper to talk.

We are just amazed at the progress.  Modern medicine is incredible.  It's hard to believe that 48 hours ago she was in surgery and now they are talking about NO oxygen.

Thanks again to everyone sending comments.  We are sharing them all with mom and she is touched.

Sunday morning update - all is well

Scott, Dad, and I got to the hospital at about 10 am.  Mom was awake, alert and sitting up in a chair.  They removed the ventilator tube early this morning and I'm sure she was happy to have that thing out.  She is having difficulty talking, but can whisper and communicate.  Her color is great and the nurse says everything is going very well.  She is still in intensive care and is receiving constant attention.  Her nurse's name is Krista and she is top-shelf.  She is obviously an expert and is extremely nice to mom and us.

We're not sure how long she will be in the ICU and we have no idea how long before she can some home.  Hopefully, we'll get to talk to the doctor and get that info today or tomorrow.

Dad is doing well.  He, Scott, and I are getting a chance to catch up.  The three of us have not been together in quite awhile and are enjoying each other's company.

Thanks to everyone that has left comments.  We are passing them along to mom as they come in.

More to come as things progress.

Sunday is here

It's Sunday morning and no news is good news.  Scott, Dad, and I are getting ready to head back to the hospital.  Hopefully she has the ventilator tube out - man that thing was bugging her!

Anyway, more updates as the day progresses.

Muffy is doing well

The first 24 hours is behind us and Mom is doing well.  She is awake and alert and looks good.  She still has the ventilator tube in.  They were hoping to have it out by now, but she has some fluid on her lungs and they want to make sure that is cleared up before they take it out.  The tube is obviously uncomfortable for her and she wants it OUT!  She is still very sleepy, but managed to write notes to us and we sat with her for a couple of hours.  Overall she is doing VERY WELL and all signs are normal.

Scott and I are both here in Seattle with Dad.  All sprits are good.  We have been waiting a long time for this!  We'll keep this site updated as everythig progresses

Muffy got the call!

For those that have not heard, Muffy finally got the call and they have located a donor lung that is a perfect fit for her.  She went into surgery Friday afternoon.  They surgery took about 5 hours and everything went well.  The operation replaced her right lung.  According to the surgeon, the fact that they did the right lung only made the procedure much simpler and quicker.  She cam out of surgery at about 9 pm pacific time.

The surgery went very well and everything is normal.  She is still sedated and is on a respirator.  So far, so good - everything is going well.
